CCMA
  • CCMA, the Center for Computational Mathematics and Applications, is a focal point for research and educational activities in computational mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at Penn State. The center promotes fundamental research in basic algorithmic development and numerical analysis as well as promotes applications of advanced computational techniques in sciences, engineering, economics, and industries.
News
  • CCMA Director Jinchao Xu has been recognized in a recent Department of Energy's "Report of The Panel on Recent Significant Advancements in Computational Science 10 BREAKTHROUGHS IN 2008" for his work related to the first provably scalable solver code for Maxwell's equations. According to DOE, this code "is a perfect example of how fundamental mathematical research can lead to important software advances in high-performance computing."
  • A second undergraduate summer school, organized by the CCMA faculty, took place in Beijing China this past summer. The program features a newly developed course, Analytical and Numerical Methods for Differential Equations, and a variety of cultural activities for students from both Penn State and Peking University.

This joint Penn State University/Peking University activity will also continue next summer (2010) this time with students visiting PSU. More details on the past undergraduate summer school (Summer 2009) can be found at the following location: http://ccma.math.psu.edu/pkusummer/.
